What is ASD?

ASD is a neurodevelopmental disorder that affects communication, social interaction, and behaviour. As it is a spectrum disorder, symptoms can vary widely regarding severity and presentation. Symptoms include difficulty with social communication, repetitive behaviours, or routines, hyper or hyposensitivity to sensory input and difficulty with change.

How can Portobello Behavioural Health help?

Therapy provides support and strategies to manage symptoms, improve communication and enhance individual social skills. Therapy can address and offer guidance for co-occurring mental health conditions whilst encouraging individuals to develop a positive self-image and self-esteem. Through coaching we can help provide individualised support and guidance to develop practical approaches for managing symptoms, improving executive functioning such as time management and enhancing social skills. Coaches can work with individuals to identify their goals and develop effective time management and organisational skills. Coaches will develop a companionship with their clients and assist them with actioning the change they require, this can be through practical goal-based work with a coach alongside them, helping the client to engage in the new behaviour throughout their journey.

Some common questions about ASD

Do you accept medical insurance?

We do not accept medical insurance.  In some instances, clients are able to reclaim the cost of our services from theirinsurance companies but we do not deal with insurance companies directly. If additional information is required by a client in making an insurance claim an administration fee is payable.

How can you support someone with ASD?

Each person with ASD is unique so what works with some people may not work for others. In general approach the person with empathy and educate yourself about the condition as much as possible. Try to adopt clear and open communication in a way that is best understood by the person you are communicating with. Recognise and accommodate sensory sensitivities to help with or prevent overload by adopting strategies that can help such as using noise cancelling headphones or having a sensory break.

Are you CQC registered?

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) oversees clinical and medical support in the UK.  Portobello Behavioural Health doesn't provide clinical or medical services and so we are not CQC registered. Therapists are registered with the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy, The Heath and Care Professions Council or a similar accrediting body. Case management and coaching are unregulated, non-clinical services. As such there is no governing or regulatory body that oversees this work. Any concerns, issues or complaints should be addressed to admin@portobellobh.com.

Do you do online coaching?

Yes. We are able to support clients online. This works better in some instances than other, usually depending on the presentation and the person involved. Get in touch and speak to a member of the team and options can be discussed.

Do you do therapy online?

Yes. We have a number of therapists who specialise in working with clients online. Get in touch and we can match you up with the most suitable member of the team.

Do you have a coach who suits my lifestyle/background/sexuality/gender/age/ethnicity etc

We have a wide range of coaches we work with from a whole range of backgrounds. It is rare that we are not able to find a match that suits our clients. If a client is particularly nervous we can arrange a free introductory meeting to see whether it will be a good fit before starting to work with someone.

Do you provide confidential support?

Discretion and confidentiality are our bywords. We protect our clients confidentiality rigorously and have processes in place to ensure that information is safeguarded. We pride ourselves on our discretion. Our flexible approach to support means that we can often work with clients in a way which suits their needs for privacy.

Where are you based?

We operate from two offices, one in London and one in Guildford, Surrey. However, we provide support to clients across the world through case management, coaching and therapy. This may include remote or online support or it may mean our coaches travelling to clients in their home country.

How much does therapy/coaching/case management cost?

The prices for our services vary depending on what is required. Please get in touch to discuss your requirements and we can explain what PBH can provide and how much it will cost.
