What is an attachment disorder?
Attachment disorders are a set of emotional and behavioural problems that occur in individuals who have experienced significant disruptions or trauma in early childhood, interfering with the normal development of a secure attachment bond with their caregiver. Reactive attachment disorder (RAD) and disinhibited social engagement disorders (DSED) are the two main types, these both affect an individual’s emotional development and ability to form healthy relationships and trust with others.
How can Portobello Behavioural Health help?
Therapy can help individuals build a secure attachment, process past trauma, develop emotional regulation skills and improve communication skills and promote healing and growth. Therapy can provide a supportive environment for individuals to work through past trauma and develop new skills to improve their emotional well-being. Coaching can supplement therapy by providing additional support and guidance for individuals in areas such as setting goals, building confidence, self-awareness and managing stress and anxiety. Coaches can work with clients to identify their strengths and navigate new relationships as well as modelling how healthy relationships can work.
