What is drug and alcohol addiction?
Drug or alcohol misuse involves behaviours such as excessive or inappropriate substance use, that cause harm to oneself or others. It often starts habitually as a coping mechanism but can quickly lead to addiction, a psychological or physical dependence despite the negative consequences. The impact on the individual and families can be devastating, with recriminations, and resentment leading to breakdowns in trust and relationships.
How do we support drug or alcohol misuse problems?
Through our case management, therapy and coaching services we can identify the right resources that you and your family might need to start to tackle the problems associated with alcoholism and drug addiction. Our approach is non-judgement, pragmatic and solution-focused. We work closely with residential and outpatient services to provide the right support which meets our client's needs. This might include supporting someone as they think about going to treatment or providing aftercare after having been in treatment. Through our case management service, we can ensure that families are supported to take the best actions which helps both them and the person with the addiction problem. Coaching can help someone develop healthy routines and relationships which have suffered during the drug or alcohol misuse period and can keep people accountable as they begin their recovery journey. Ongoing therapy and group work ensure that deeper problems continue to be worked on or reduce the likelihood of relapse.
