Flexible, Responsive, and Discrete

Whether you need occasional help or live-in assistance, our coaches work with you to determine what level of hands-on help is right for your unique situation. Sensitive and responsive, our coaches are as flexible as you need them to be.

If it needs to be done—it’s likely that our coaches can help.

Coaches can provide solutions where seemingly none currently exist such as:

  • Helping someone to stay safe either before or after they go into residential rehab.
  • Providing therapeutically beneficial companionship to an adolescent who is struggling with ASD.
  • Helping mirror healthy relationships in day-to-day life outside of the work being done in therapy.
  • A trusted ally helping you develop relationship skills in a supportive and non-judgmental way.
  • Helping clients struggling with eating disorders through in-person or online meal support.
  • Supporting a young adult, receiving treatment for schizophrenia to help take care of themselves properly.
Working as part of a team

Portobello Behavioural Health’s multidisciplinary approach means that coaches often work alongside case managers and therapists with access to our broader clinical team to provide direct practical support as part of a broader treatment plan. Experienced at managing complex situations, our coaches understand how their role can supplement and reinforce clinical goals set by therapists, psychologists or psychiatrists.

As with all services at Portobello Behavioural Health, our coaches operate with the highest level of discretion at all times. Coaches operate under the close supervision of our clinical team.

Understanding behavioural health coaching

Our coaches are trained to walk alongside clients in the journey to wellness, not as clinicians, but as trusted allies. Many of our carefully vetted coaches have lived experience with recovery and enjoy sharing a spirit of hope, camaraderie, and possibility with our clients.

How does it work?

01.
Initial consultation
Speak to a member of our team, in confidence, so we can better understand your needs, how we might be able to help and discuss next steps.
01.
Assessment
Depending on what services we recommend the next step is a formal assessment either with a clinical psychologist or a member of the therapy team.
01.
Define a path to greater wellness
You’ll meet the team working with you and chart a plan to help tackle the problems you are facing. The length of time you work with us will be driven by you and your needs – we will support you every step of the way.
01.
Ongoing care
The path to better mental health and wellness is a life-long process. Our aim is that you will get to a point where you no longer need us. However, our team will always be available to provide ongoing support, advice or additional help should you need it.

Some common questions about coaching

Do you accept medical insurance?

We do not accept medical insurance.  In some instances, clients are able to reclaim the cost of our services from theirinsurance companies but we do not deal with insurance companies directly. If additional information is required by a client in making an insurance claim an administration fee is payable.

Do you have a coach who suits my lifestyle/background/sexuality/gender/age/ethnicity etc

We have a wide range of coaches we work with from a whole range of backgrounds. It is rare that we are not able to find a match that suits our clients. If a client is particularly nervous we can arrange a free introductory meeting to see whether it will be a good fit before starting to work with someone.

Do you do online coaching?

Yes. We are able to support clients online. This works better in some instances than other, usually depending on the presentation and the person involved. Get in touch and speak to a member of the team and options can be discussed.

Are you CQC registered?

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) oversees clinical and medical support in the UK.  Portobello Behavioural Health doesn't provide clinical or medical services and so we are not CQC registered. Therapists are registered with the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy, The Heath and Care Professions Council or a similar accrediting body. Case management and coaching are unregulated, non-clinical services. As such there is no governing or regulatory body that oversees this work. Any concerns, issues or complaints should be addressed to admin@portobellobh.com.

Where are you based?

We operate from two offices, one in London and one in Guildford, Surrey. However, we provide support to clients across the world through case management, coaching and therapy. This may include remote or online support or it may mean our coaches travelling to clients in their home country.

Does PBH follow a particular treatment approach or modality?

The way we support clients is flexible as we recognise that different people are at different stages in their road to wellness. We do not advocate or prescribe a particular modality but do recognise that clients who are engaged in self-destructive behaviours often need to be supported to stop or minimise the behaviour in order for their recovery to progress. However, we also acknowledge that this is not a linear process and as such lapses are frequent and we are adept at dealing with them.

Can you refer me to a treatment centre/psychiatrist/psychologist?

We work with a variety of providers and professionals in the addiction and mental health field. We often work alongside these professionals to provide wrap-around care. If PBH is not the right service for you, or we feel we are not the right fit for you we will happily make a recommendation to another provider that may be able to help.

What do I do in an emergency?

Dealing with mental health problems is turbulent and characterised by repeated crises. PBH is not an emergency service. If you find yourself in a situation where someone needs medical assistance or there is an imminent danger you should call emergency services. If the situation is contained and you require rapid response in the form of case management or coaching please get in touch.
