What is complex mental health?

Complex mental health problems are conditions that involve multiple, interconnected mental health issues. These often require a comprehensive, integrated treatment approach and specialised care involving a team of healthcare professionals. These can include severe and chronic disorders such as personality disorders, substance misuse, trauma, mood and anxiety problems and psychotic disorders. Supporting someone with complex mental health problems can be challenging. We have the experience to provide direct practical support working alongside psychiatrists, psychologists or residential treatment providers.

How can Portobello Behavioural Health help?

Our support tailored support programmes can provide a safe and supportive environment for individuals to explore and address their mental health concerns. Individuals can work alongside therapists, coaches and case managers to create a personalised treatment plan unique to their needs, which may include a variety of evidence-based therapies, practical coaching support and the direct help of a dedicated case manager. In complex cases, our support is often provided in conjunction with medication management to provide a comprehensive treatment approach. Our experienced team can help to build self-confidence, develop practical strategies for managing emotions and navigate potential challenges in personal and professional lives, including assisting with independent living. Other treatment options could group therapy, psychosocial rehabilitation and other interventions tailored to the individual needs.

Some questions about complex mental health

Can you refer me to a treatment centre/psychiatrist/psychologist?

We work with a variety of providers and professionals in the addiction and mental health field. We often work alongside these professionals to provide wrap-around care. If PBH is not the right service for you, or we feel we are not the right fit for you we will happily make a recommendation to another provider that may be able to help.

Are you CQC registered?

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) oversees clinical and medical support in the UK.  Portobello Behavioural Health doesn't provide clinical or medical services and so we are not CQC registered. Therapists are registered with the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy, The Heath and Care Professions Council or a similar accrediting body. Case management and coaching are unregulated, non-clinical services. As such there is no governing or regulatory body that oversees this work. Any concerns, issues or complaints should be addressed to admin@portobellobh.com.

Does PBH follow a particular treatment approach or modality?

The way we support clients is flexible as we recognise that different people are at different stages in their road to wellness. We do not advocate or prescribe a particular modality but do recognise that clients who are engaged in self-destructive behaviours often need to be supported to stop or minimise the behaviour in order for their recovery to progress. However, we also acknowledge that this is not a linear process and as such lapses are frequent and we are adept at dealing with them.

Do you accept medical insurance?

We do not accept medical insurance.  In some instances, clients are able to reclaim the cost of our services from theirinsurance companies but we do not deal with insurance companies directly. If additional information is required by a client in making an insurance claim an administration fee is payable.

How much does therapy/coaching/case management cost?

The prices for our services vary depending on what is required. Please get in touch to discuss your requirements and we can explain what PBH can provide and how much it will cost.

Where are you based?

We operate from two offices, one in London and one in Guildford, Surrey. However, we provide support to clients across the world through case management, coaching and therapy. This may include remote or online support or it may mean our coaches travelling to clients in their home country.
